RESUMO

Green finance has originated as a critical factor for green development, where green technology innovation is a primary approach. Yet, limited information is available regarding how green finance influences green technological creation. This work probes the asymmetric linkage between green finance and green technology innovation in the selected European Union countries (Germany, Sweden, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, and Finland). Prior works adopted panel data methods to get usual outcomes concerning the green finance-green technology nexus, nevertheless the reality is that various nations did not establish such connection separately. The present work, in contrast, utilizes a peculiar tool, 'Quantile-on-Quantile,' that facilitates research to probe temporal reliance in entire nations by giving global yet economy-specific intuitions on the variables' correlation. Estimates exhibit that green finance enhances green technology innovation in almost all our chosen nations at definite quantiles of data distribution. Furthermore, the findings expose that the extent of asymmetry throughout various quantiles of our variables differs by the economy, emphasising the relevance of policymakers paying particular consideration while employing green innovation and green finance policies.

RESUMO

Energy poverty alleviation has emerged as a critical economic problem in recent years. Given the enormous number of people without essential energy services, a crucial concern is whether providing universal access to electrification will considerably affect environmental quality. The present research evaluates the asymmetric energy poverty-environmental quality nexus in South Asian economies. Previous works adopted panel data techniques, resulting in distinctive conclusions about the energy poverty-environmental quality nexus, irrespective of the truth that several nations could not establish such a correlation separately. This research, conversely, applies the Quantile-on-Quantile methodology, which enables independent determinations of time-series interconnection in all nations to offer worldwide yet economy-particular evidence concerning the relationship between the variables. The results indicate that energy poverty degrades environmental quality in most selected economies at particular data distribution quantiles. Moreover, the findings disclose that the ranks of asymmetries between the variables change by country, emphasizing the requirement of governments to take special care when accepting policies linked to energy poverty and environmental quality.

RESUMO

Growing concerns regarding climate change and the necessity to shift towards a low-carbon economy have resulted in a significant rise in the worth of green finance for developing energy technology. This growing emphasis on green finance underscores the urgency for a nuanced exploration of the asymmetric nexus between green investment and energy innovation in Europe. The present article investigates the asymmetric relationship between green investment and energy innovation in the top ten European nations with the highest green investment (France, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Austria, Finland, the UK, and Sweden). Formerly, panel data methodologies were employed to observe the link between green investment and energy innovation despite the absence of an exclusive connection in certain economies. On the other hand, this study uses 'Quantile-on-Quantile' approach for econometric estimation using the annual data from 2007 to 2022. This unique methodology enables a detailed and specific analysis of time-series interdependence in every economy, providing valuable perceptions of the nuanced relationship between these variables. Investment in renewable energy is employed as a proxy for green investment, while energy-related patents represent energy innovation. The study employs a quantile cointegration test to assess the variables long-run relationship. The results indicate a positive correlation between green investment and energy innovation in many countries at certain data points. Additionally, the analysis demonstrates that the extent of asymmetry between these variables varies across countries, stressing policymakers' need to closely monitor fluctuations in green investment and energy innovation.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant challenges to healthcare systems worldwide, prompting governments to allocate substantial resources toward public health spendings (PHS). However, the uncertainties surrounding the pandemic have raised questions about the effectiveness and sustainability of such expenditures. This research analyzes the nonlinear link between pandemic uncertainty (PNU) and PHS in countries with highest PNU (USA, India, France, Germany, UK, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, and China). Previous studies have employed panel data methodologies to establish consistent findings regarding the relationship between pandemics and health spendings, regardless of the fact that several countries have not autonomously recognized this connection. In contrast, this current research adopts a distinctive tool called "quantile-on-quantile," which enables the examination of time series dependency within each economy, providing both international and country-specific perspectives on the relationship between the variables. The estimations indicate that PNU leads to an increase in PHS in the vast majority of economies chosen by us, focusing on definite segments of the data distribution. Moreover, the data demonstrates that there are differences in the asymmetry between the variables across various nations. This underscores the need for policymakers to take careful deliberation when formulating policies related to health spendings and addressing the challenges posed by pandemic uncertainty.

RESUMO

Uncertainties have grown around the world during the last few decades. Pandemic uncertainty has a substantial impact on economic activities, which may have a big influence on energy consumption. The goal of this investigation is to appraise the asymmetric influence of pandemic uncertainty on nonrenewable and renewable energy consumption in the top 10 energy consumer economies of the European Union (Germany, Poland, Spain, Netherlands, France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Czech Republic, and Finland). Previously, panel data approaches were utilized to obtain reliable outcomes on the pandemic-energy consumption nexus, regardless of the fact that various nations did not autonomously exhibit similar relationship. This investigation, on the other hand, implements a special technique "Quantile-on-Quantile" that supports us to appraise time-series interdependence in each economy by providing international yet nation-specific perceptions of the connection among the variables. Estimates show that pandemic uncertainty reduces both nonrenewable and renewable energy consumption in most selected nations at stated quantiles of the data distribution. Nonrenewable energy consumption is much more influenced by pandemic uncertainty than renewable energy consumption. Furthermore, the rank of asymmetries across our variables differentiates by the economy, emphasizing the need for decisionmakers to pay much attention to pandemics-related uncertainty and the energy sector.

RESUMO

This research intends to evaluate the asymmetric relationship between pandemic uncertainty and public health expenditures in selected European Union nations (Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Austria, Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Finland, and Portugal). Earlier studies used panel data methodologies to get consistent results about the pandemic-health expenditures nexus, irrespective of the reality that numerous economies did not identify such a link independently. By contrast, the present research utilizes a unique technique, quantile-on-quantile, that explores time-series dependency in every nation by offering worldwide yet country-related insight into the linkage between the variables. Estimations reveal that pandemic uncertainty increases public health expenditures in most of the selected economies at specified quantiles of data. Additionally, the data indicate that the level of asymmetries among our variables varies by country, stressing the significance of policymakers paying special attention while executing policies concerning health expenditures and pandemic uncertainty.

RESUMO

The current study explores the relationship between water resources and tourism in South Asia for the period of 1995-2017. The study employs the CIPS unit root test for stationarity of the variables and the CD test for cross-sectional dependence among cross-sectional units. As for the long-run parameters, a novel technique, known as dynamic common correlated effect (DCCE) model, is used which was recently developed by Chudik and Pesaran (J Econ 188:393-420, 2015b). The outcomes from the DCCE method suggest that water resources have a positive impact on tourism in South Asia. It is also proven that ignoring cross-sectional dependence among the cross-sectional units may bring about misleading outcomes. The findings of the study can be helpful for policymakers to understand the role of water resources in boosting tourism and contributing to the economic prosperity of South Asian countries.
